A warning from Richard Stallmann

“New cloud computing OS released by Google is plan to push people into ‘careless computing’, warns free software advocate” sez The Guardian. Good piece, here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2010/dec/14/chrome-os-richard-stallman-warning.

Raise yr voice for culture / we get out of balance

“Nederland schreeuwt om cultuur”. Tomorrow, November 20th, people will come together in 65 Dutch cities and towns to raise their voice for arts and culture. The budget cuts proposed by government are vindictive, uncivilized and out of proportion.

We get out of balance.

You can join the protest online by inserting a line of code, provided by V2_, in your website: http://code.v2.nl/nederland/schreeuwt-om-cultuur.js

(Update 22/11: Originally the code provided a new background for a website and made the content appeared slanted).

Taking-form

“When movement converges into its taking-form, or when thought converges into words, very little potential for creative expression remains. This is not to suggest that language cannot express creatively. It means that to remain post- iteratively creative, language must continue to express itself in a realm where thought remains prearticulated, where concepts continue to evolve. We must conceive of language as the eternal return of expression in the making.” (Erin Manning, Relationscapes, MIT Press, 2009, p.8)

(Ben ik het hier nu mee eens, of juist hartgrondig oneens? Geredeneerd vanuit Whitehead, knik ik. Komt het via Deleuze, raak ik geïrriteerd).

Stelvio on a fixie

In case anybody thinks you can’t do big climbs and descents on a brakeless fixie, then check out this clip: Seabase vs Stelvio. More here: seabase.cc. (I guess the main problem is you won’t have much of a back tire left after 25 kms of descent).

Ideas for the future

Looking forward to telling bedtime stories, certainly when they can be the favorites of Daniel Wolf’s daughter: http://renewablemusic.blogspot.com .. adventures-in-bedtime-stories.html

Biak 1962

In 1962 when he was 19 my father was stationed as a conscripted soldier on Biak, Dutch Papua New Guinea. It was a complete mess. The Papuas were betrayed by international diplomacy and Papua New Guinea became Indonesian after Dutch rule, instead of independent. Found this excellent set of 1962 photographs on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/toni_uni/sets/72157606249748644/
