Flusser: Vom Verrat

  1. Self-comment.

What I like about getting back to Flusser, is how he rethinks writing & publishing at the ‘dawn’ of the digital age. He derives his ‘phenomology’ of media, from the different stages of abstracting, (sculpture – image – writing – binary code = 3D 2D 1D points), and so infers that we are — anno 1991 — entering a new ‘era’. … He lays it out so clear, that it’s tempting to totally agree (anyhow, his explanation of why we have entered post-histoire is about the clearest and most elegant I know; much more so than those of Agamben or Sloterdijk).

Speaking from a point in time where it had not happened yet, he saw possibilities that for us function as a (critical) distancing of the current (publishing/writing) situation. Flusser forces you to look at it with new ‘eyes’. Well maybe not new, though refreshed… thanks to the distancing.

Anyway, slowly working through marked passages in Flusser-texts… I hope to put up more quotes.
